Also known as Handunugoda Tea Plantation with factory and museum…The Virgin White Tea Plantation in Galle, Sri Lanka offers free guided tours around the plantation, tea making factory, tea museum AND you will be treated to a cup of delicious tea and freshly baked cake!

When you start the tour of the plantation there is a board that reads:

This tea is completely untouched by hand.

It follows an ancient Chinese ritual

where the Mandarins employed virgins

to cut the tea leaf with golden scissors into a golden bowl.

Only the emperor’s lips touched the tea.

This tea has 10.11% antioxidants, the highest in any beverage.

It is a rejuvenator and health giver.

This is our contribution to the world of tea.

This of course is not the case today (the virgin and golden scissors bit), although they do take great measures to produce a tea of the highest quality with extraordinary health properties.

Handunugoda is the only Virgin White Tea plantation in the world.

Here’s what you can expect from the Virgin White Tea Plantation In Galle:

If you have ever bought Virgin White Tea, you will know that it costs a pretty penny…And that’s because it is not grown anywhere but here.

I thought that was pretty cool!

It makes the guided tour around this unique tea plantation all the more interesting and special.

While this plantation is famous for their Virgin White Tea, they do produce and sell many other kinds of tea here – most of which are much more affordable than the white tea they are famous for.

The day we toured the plantation was a scorcher!

If you’re visiting in summertime, I suggest taking a hat, wearing breathable clothes, a bottle of water and lots of sunscreen.

That being said, we had the best time!

I’ve loved reliving our tour of the Virgin White Tea Plantation In Galle while choosing the photos and writing this post.
