House Update Vol. 1

Posed on January 18 2021

At last I have my act together and I’m going to start sharing our home build progress here on the blog! From a very sloped plot covered in dense (beautiful) trees to breaking ground and mapping out the foundations, to the first bricks being laid and all the way to the finish line – to a gorgeously earthy, slightly rustic, eclectic and welcoming home.

At least that’s what I see in my minds eye when I imagine this house finished.

This one is going to be an image-heavy post, coz the pictures pretty much speak for themselves, am I right?!

So here we go with my House Update Vol. 1:

Starting at the verrrry beginning, here’s the plot being cleared of the forest of trees (which we loved, but alas it was the house or the trees, and the house won)

Ah, all clear and marked for foundations…

The lower level got built first (the garage), and once the concrete slab was poured on top, progress on the upper level, which is the whole house really, could go ahead.

Master bedroom – LOVE the views.

Open plan living – lounge, dining room, kitchen and scullery tucked behind the exposed brick wall.

Lounge and dining room open out onto a wooden deck with pool and built in braai (BBQ). This is going to be such a wonderful outdoor living and entertaining space!

Here’s the pool…

Shot from below the deck looking up at the house…

Spacious guest bedroom – I’m so looking forward to making this room welcoming and comfy/cozy!

Probably one of our favourite features of this house is the entrance – with this HUGE picture window, and two smaller ones on either side, this staircase is going to give quite the first impression.

And here’s the brains behind the build – Mike is so good at everything he does and he’s working super hard to get this house finished on schedule.

A more updated look at the house from the driveway. Lots of progress!

I promise to keep you updated as we get to the end – MY favourite part…the lighting, finishes and fittings and THE DECOR.

I get all the warm and fuzzy feels just thinking about this home coming together exactly the way we planned all those months ago when we started putting the design and “look” together.

Of course we’ve made changes along the way and had to adapt here and there, but I think those little unexpected tweaks just add something special to the finished product.

Hope you’ve enjoyed our House Update Vol. 1!
