Incredible Health Benefits of Eating Well

Health is wealth – an age-old saying. For me, a healthy lifestyle that includes eating really nutritious, whole foods 80 – 90% of the time plus an exercise routine that I truly love has made an incredible difference to my life. Today we dig deeper into the crux of the incredible benefits of clean eating.

Now that fast food is all over the place, the concern for our physical and mental health, as well as staying fit is more prominent than ever. Advice like Miranda’s Physio Steps highly encourage the maximum performance of the nervous system by promoting proper exercise and good nutrition. Without proper nutrition, both the body and mind are in jeopardy.

Healthy eating is essential for overall health and longevity.

Before we move on, let’s discuss the ideology of a healthy diet.

What is a Healthy Diet?

Healthy eating doesn’t imply going on a calorie deficit or depriving yourself completely of eating the foods that you love the most.

It is all about eating nutritious foods and focusing on a balanced and varied diet.

Being mindful of the quantities of macros you’re eating with every meal is important.

A healthy diet should be an amalgamation of complex carbohydrates, protein and healthy fat (the 3 macro nutrients) as well as vitamins, minerals and fibre.

I like to focus on the simple combination of carbs, protein and fat…

And trust that if I’m eating a good variety of healthy, whole foods (including plenty of leafy greens, non-starchy vegetables and entire fruits) then the vitamins, minerals and fibre will take care of themselves.

I also try to eat sugar-free and gluten-free for the majority of the time. I find I feel amazing when I avoid sugary foods and foods that contain wheat flour. Check out this interesting post on lectin free foods. If you are gluten sensitive, you might also have aversions to other lectins.

Eating in this way can have a major impact on the efficiency of your digestion as well as energy levels. You can supplement with high-quality, non-GMO metabolism vitamins if you feel it is necessary for your lifestyle or it has been suggested by your health-care practitioner.

I’d like to add here that it’s OK to have a treat every now and then. We certainly do! But I’ve found it’s important to keep your goals in mind when treating yourself so that you can “dip without diving”.

I find it helpful to have a very clear timetable of when I decide to eat 100% healthy, and when I decide to indulge. Because it is as simple as a decision. YOU have complete control of the food that you put in your body. This will look different for everyone, but finding your sweet-spot is essential for turning a new leaf into a lifestyle that is sustainable FOR YOU, for the rest of your life.

After all, we’re talking about a LIFESTYLE, not a flash in the pan diet.

  • Helps You Manage Your Weight

Adding foods such as entire fruits, vegetables, whole grains, raw organic dairy products plus some unsaturated fats (such as avocado, nut butters, coconut oil, avocado oil and olive oil) into your diet will help you manage weight gain.

Maintaining a healthy weight for your height and body type will help you to avoid chronic health disease.

Fibre-rich food (complex carbs) and foods high in animal or plant protein can help you feel fuller for longer, give you energy and help you to build and maintain muscle mass and curtail your cravings.

  • Improves Heart Health

What’s a perfect meal?

Well, one that is rich in whole grains, starchy and non-starchy vegetables (think pumpkin or sweet potato or butternut plus leafy greens, tomato, cucumber etc), protein and healthy fat, as this combination of foods helps to reduce the chances of heart disease.

As a result, your cholesterol levels and blood pressure should remain balanced.

If you eliminate fast food, certain canned foods that are high in table salt, sugars, sweeteners and flavourings as well as processed meats, sauces and spreads this will undoubtably aid in better heart health.

  • Boosts Cognitive Function

A healthy diet, which includes a variety of nutrient-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats, can provide many benefits for cognitive function.

In addition, intermittent fasting, a dietary approach that involves alternating between periods of fasting and eating, has also been shown to have cognitive benefits such as improved memory, increased focus, and reduced inflammation in the brain.

Research has shown that consuming foods high in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids can also improve cognitive function.

Conversely, avoiding processed foods and excess sugar can help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, which can contribute to cognitive decline.

In short, a healthy diet, including intermittent fasting, can provide the brain with the fuel it needs to operate at its best, leading to improved cognitive function and overall wellbeing.

Cancer has already claimed the lives of millions globally. This disease can attack any age group.

In many cases an unhealthy lifestyle seems to be one of the leading factors that contributes to the development of this disease.

  • Helps Reduce Stress

Clean eating has always been beneficial in uplifting one’s mood and decluttering the mind from stress.

If you eat nutritiously, you’ll naturally have more energy which makes one feel more like exercising on a daily basis which leads to a rush of endorphins that make us feel good about ourselves and life in general.

I personally find these feel-good emotions carry me through each day and are essential for coping with what life can throw at me…

We don’t always have control over what comes our way each day, but what we can control is the food we choose to put in our bodies, and the exercise we decide to take part in.

For me, a healthy lifestyle that includes eating really well 80 – 90% of the time plus an exercise routine that I love has made an incredible difference to my life!

I know I said that earlier, but it’s worth repeating.

It goes without saying, but I can’t help mentioning that avoiding refined sugar as much as humanly possible is obviously the way to go. For mind and body – a diet low in refined sugar is incredibly beneficial.
