Top Tips For Travelling With a Baby

Today I have an exciting guest post for you…Travelling with a baby can be a rewarding and memorable experience for the whole family. Is it the same as travelling pre-baby? No. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t enjoyable! You won’t be able to go from 8am-6pm without a break or fit in 101 activities like in your Contiki days, but it offers a chance to slow down, relax and enjoy building family memories together.

Our Top Tips For Travel With a Baby:

  • Travel light & hire an apartment with a washing machine if possible
  • Only take what you need (leave the lifetime supply of nappies at home, you can buy extras at your destination – hopefully! – Maybe check up on this before you go)
  • Don’t overload your itinerary and make sure your plans are go-with-the-flow -> nothing is set in stone when you have babies and toddlers around
  • Otherwise, you can book the services of a professional caregiver through a referral of a support coordination team. This step is necessary, especially for parents or children with disabilities, for a more convenient trip
  • Always rent a car with a carseat
  • Eat dinner early so you can avoid the crowds and don’t need to wait too long for the little one’s meals to arrive
  • Be flexible, patient and open-minded!

5 Essentials for Baby Travel:

These are our minimal essentials to help make travelling with a baby that little bit easier, you’re not going to want to leave home without them!

1. Baby Carrier

Baby Carrier

The ultimate in hands-free convenience, our number one must is a baby carrier. They’re especially handy if you’re travelling alone and need to juggle suitcases, documents and baby all at once.

We also love them if you’re travelling where there are cobblestones, as it just becomes too much of a hassle to push a pram. All you need to do is strap baby into the carrier and onto your front or back.

The memo has a range of great carriers from Ergo Baby and Baby Bjorn. Choose the right size and material to suit your needs and away you go! They’re all ergonomically designed, so you can be sure you won’t get a sore back and your baby will be extra comfy.

2. Baby Backpack

Baby Backpack

Ditch the handbag on holiday and opt for practicality with a backpack. That doesn’t mean you have to say adios to your personal style though!

The Aluxo X Active Backpack is a chic and functional option that will equally suit mum or dad.

This baby bag backpack is ultra versatile and comes with a top handle so you can carry it like a tote. It includes a change mat, five internal pockets for organisation, three insulated baby bottle holders, two external pockets for water bottles and baby wipes, and a key leash. We’re sold.

3. Sippy Cup

Sippy Cup

It’s a no-brainer really, but don’t forget to pack a waterproof sippy cup to keep bub hydrated while on-the-go.

The memo have a range of great sippy cups in different sizes and colours to choose from. The BBox Sippy Cup is a fan fave with an innovative weighted straw that means no leaks guaranteed. Even better, your little one can drink from it even if they’re lying down making it the most functional option ever.

4. Nappy Wallet

Nappy Wallet

An essential for whenever you’re leaving the house is a nappy wallet. A dirty nappy and blowouts can happen with literally a moment’s notice.

Depending on where you’re travelling, not everywhere will have baby changing tables when you’re out, so it’s always a good idea to travel prepared.

We love the Skip Hop nappy wallet which is lightweight to carry, folding up like a little clutch bag and then rolls out to a clean, cushioned space to safely change your child. They’re fitted with pockets so just remember to pop some wipes, nappies, nappy rash cream and hand sanitiser inside before heading out.

5. Swim Nappies

Beach holiday on the horizon? You absolutely need to pack swim nappies, and while you’re at it why not take reusable ones to help control your waste too.

Having a baby can really see your carbon footprint go up and there’s a lot of wastage in the baby world. With the reusable swim nappies from Baby Beehinds, you can use them again and again and wash between wears. They come in a range of cute colours and will help avoid any code browns!
