If you’re like me, you LOVE hummus, but not all hummus is created equal. I personally love to make my own, but timing-wise this isn’t always possible.

Not sure exactly what Hummus is or where it originated? Read this post – What Is Hummus? for all the juicy details on this delicious dip from the Middle East.

The next best thing to homemade hummus is to scout your local food store for your options, and be sure to read the ingredients!

Try to avoid anything with canola oil and instead go for a hummus made with olive oil, avocado oil or sunflower seed oil. You also want to avoid preservatives – the fresher the better!

Once you’ve found a brand you can trust, there is classic hummus, basil hummus, beetroot hummus, and I’m sure a few other options to choose from. I love them all and it’s fun to have different flavours to buy from week to week.

Regardless of whether you have classic hummus, or a fun variety, here are some ideas of how to serve your hummus…

12 Delicious Ways To Eat Hummus:

1. Classic Hummus and Pita Pockets

This is the most basic way to enjoy hummus. Pita breads are really quick and easy to prepare. Just spread your favourite hummus on a warm pita pocket OR wrap, add some sliced veggies or lettuce (roasted asparagus is amazing in a hummus wrap!), and enjoy. It’s simple, but it’s utterly delicious!!

2. Falafel Sandwiches

Falafel is a popular Middle Eastern dish that is perfect when paired with hummus. Spread some hummus on a warm pita pocket, add your falafel, and top with some tahini sauce. You can add some salad greens or pickles for even more flavor and texture.

You can, of course also enjoy your falafel on top of your favourite salad greens with a dollop of hummus on the side – this is a personal favourite of mine. I love this combo with black olives, red onion slices, cucumber chunks and cherry tomatoes. Yum yum yum.

3. Eggplant and Hummus Salad

Eggplant and hummus salad is a delicious option for those looking for a healthy, plant-based meal. The eggplant is satisfyingly filling, while the hummus adds creaminess and protein.

This dish can be served as a main course or as a side to accompany other dishes.

To prepare, slice the eggplant, drizzle with a little olive oil and roast in the oven until tender.

Top with a generous scoop of hummus and sprinkle with pomegranate seeds, crushed pistachios, and herbs like mint or basil for added flavour and texture.

Serve this salad warm or cold; either way, it’s sure to be a tasty addition to any meal. Bon appétit.

4. Egg Salad with Hummus

Try using hummus for a tasty twist on the traditional egg salad. Mix some hummus with your favourite egg salad recipe, spoon it into a lettuce leaf or spread it on healthy bread or a brown rice cracker, and enjoy. You can add some sliced pickles for extra flavour.

5. Hummus and Avocado Toast

Avocado is wonderful on a healthy slice of toast. To make the perfect breakfast or brunch, spread some hummus on toast and top with some slices of avocado. You can add some sliced tomato or a poached egg for even more protein and flavour.

Hummus is made with chickpeas and therefore is a great source of protein, so this is a wonderful pre or post workout meal. Squeeze a little fresh lemon juice on top of the avocado slices and finish off with a sprinkle of sea salt and black pepper.

Match made in HEAVEN.
