I absolutely LOVE this topic, it is so fascinating to know more about how our bodies are formed, just in general!  Let alone getting into the details of your very own DNA.

Why should you bother to get your DNA tested, you may ask?

Well, there are a number of reasons why I Had My DNA Tested and I’m going to list them briefly for you, and then go into more detail below…
  • Knowledge is power, the more you know about your body, the healthier you can choose to be
  • DNAlysis can run the tests specific to the areas you are most interested in (read more below)
  • It’s really easy, just take the test, and receive the results a week or so later!
  • You will have a full hour consultation with your assigned dietician (in person, over the phone or on skype) where they will go through your results in detail and will be available to you afterwards via email to answer any questions you may have as you implement the lifestyle changes, or lifestyle upgrades, as I like to think of them!
  • Prevention is better than cure, you will feel empowered to make lifestyle changes knowing that you’re doing what is best for your body and mind in the long-run
It’s SO important that we live our lives with our future health in mind.

I know I want to be fit and flourishing as I grow older, with no regrets about my health and well-being, and I’m sure you feel the same way!

And it’s not just for you, it’s also for the people that you love…Quality of life (feeling well) is directly related to happiness and contentment.  Surely that is something we should all be striving for.

The time to make positive change is now.  Start today folks!  You won’t regret it.

Taking the DNAlysis test was so easy and convenient from start to finish!

Before I took my DNA test, my boyfriend and I listened to a podcast on DNA testing on a longish car ride, and we were enthralled!

After that, I was more interested than ever in taking the test myself and finding out more about my very own DNA and what it said about me and how I should be living my life.

My results were given to me over WhatsApp call, and they were very interesting indeed.  VERY in-depth, so I will go into them briefly here just to give you an idea of what to expect.

You can choose from the following tests:

  • Health
  • Diet
  • Sport
  • Oestrogen
  • Mind
  • Skin

I opted to have the Health, Diet and Sport tests run on my DNA.

A few of my results from when I Had My DNA Tested:

HEALTH

I had a few high priority areas as far as my health test went, including Methylation, Inflammation, Detoxification (I actually have 2 gene deletions here, which means I was born without the genes), and Bone Health.

My dietician advised me to make a few simple lifestyle upgrades to support my body in these areas.  Such as regular exercise, taking detox baths in hot water and Epsom Salts 2 – 3 times a week.  And adding in more cruciferous vegetables, leafy greens and legumes to my diet, as well as taking fish oil daily.

DIET

Interestingly I can’t metabolise caffeine AT ALL…Which is something I have known for a while now and why I haven’t had a cup of coffee for almost 6 years.  She told me to limit caffeinated tea to one cup a day, or just stick to herbal tea, so I’ve been drinking herbal tea and hot cacao…It’s so YUM!

I have similar problems metabolising alcohol, which makes total sense because I’ve always felt immediately horrible if I have more than one drink.

As far as weight loss goes, my body relies far more on a clean diet to maintain a healthy and stable weight, and far less on exercise.

Another snippet was that after eating a meal or snack, the signal from my stomach to my brain that says “I am full” isn’t received as quickly as it should be, so I still feel hungry, even after a big meal.  I had sort of realised this about myself about a year ago and I have been really careful about my portions since then.  It was nice to know there is actual genetic evidence of this fact!

SPORT

There were no red flags for me here, just that my body may respond better to morning exercise, and that a good balance of different forms of exercise is best for me.  So my mix of cardio, weights workouts, yoga and pilates is just right.

I’ve noticed recently that when I do workouts that I feel like doing – for example if my body is a little tired, I’ll do a yin yoga or a gentle yoga flow – I enjoy it so much more, and then I’m more likely to actually feel like doing a heavier workout the next day, and I’m really energised afterwards!

Now of course, I’m not saying that you absolutely NEED to get your DNA tested or else you won’t be healthy.

I wholeheartedly believe in balance and listening to your body, and if you feel well, then you most likely are well.

I have always struggled with a few areas as far as health goes, and it is really nice to know that I’m not crazy, or over-dramatic, and that in those areas that I have been listening to my body for years already and making changes as I felt they were needed, they were actually needed!

I am different to a lot of other people in some areas – and listening to my body was the right thing to do.

So if you’re like me and you feel you need some peace of mind, or some assistance in finding out what changes need to be made to your lifestyle that will be best specifically for YOUR body and overall health, then contact DNAlysis for more information.

I highly recommend it and I’d love to know all about your DNA journey!

If you feel like it, share in the comments below, or send me a private message, I’d be thrilled to hear from you!
